  • I can't remember the last time I blogged here, but oh wells. I never was great keeping it going. Anyway, to recap what has been going on, let's see.... I'm still friggin unemployed although it I think it will change soon. I submitted my resume out to a few more companies, I'm just hoping one will bite. I got interviewed for a part time job at a gym, but the bastages changed the original agreement of 3 days a week to 6! I wouldn't have minded except all 6 days start at 0445 in the morning... Hell no I'm not waking up at 0330 everyday. That's suicide right there. Stupid thing is they already signed me up for the job, I go in for training, and then poof, I'm told by the head honcho, "Oh we've made a slight adjustment to your schedule." Oh, well I'm not one for letting people f*ck me in the ass either, so I told them no thanks.

Yeah, so that's the latest on the job front. Who'd thought that the economy slowing would make finding a real job so hard. I mean I can always find a burger flipper job, but that's not what I went to college for... In the mean time, I've been messing with the Z as usual. I swapped out the old automatic climate control system to a manual system, and it's nice being able to turn on my heater and fan whenever I want. The old setup would only turn on the fan if it was below 50 degrees outside. Other than that, it'd never turn on. Pretty pathetic eh? I never had a heater either since the previous owner cut the heater hoses, and never told me about the bad heater valve either. Oh well, I'm not complaining now that I have the ability to roast myself in the winter, and cool off a bit during the summer. I still need to get a new blower motor amplifier as the old one is glitchy and sometimes stops the fan from working. It's an easy fix though.

Yep, so all in all, I'm just trying to get my foot in the door for some kinda job related to my degree, and I'm anxiously waiting for my gf to arrive from Japan in the new few days. It'll be nice since we haven't seen each other since October. Who knows when we'll see each again after her visit is over. Man, long distance relationships are rough!

  • It's been several months now since I've written anything here. I'm not doing a good job of updating on a regular basis, but oh well what can I say? The past several months have been great times though. I recently got back from a trip to Japan to see Yumiko. It'd been 8 months since we were last together, and those 8 months felt like forever to me. I wish my trip could have been a little longer. I was there for 6 weeks, but in truth it wasn't enough. I was glad to get outta SD for while. It seems like time just flies when you're with the one you love. I swear I arrived, I woke up to eat some breakfast and then the next thing you know, I'm going right back to the airport! I did have a lot of fun though as I met up with some old friends who I haven't seen over 2 years. It was great to catch up and see what the heck they're all up to.

Now that I'm back in SD, it's time to start job hunting for something local while I also apply for a position in Japan. I also have to replace my alternator for the 8th time in 2 years. Word of advice, don't use the budget stuff from car stores. Just bite the bullet and buy the dealership one. Anyway, that's about it for now.

  • Yay it's finals time! Well, sorta kinda it is. I have one on Monday and then my remaining two on the 16th. I had two this past Wednesday. I can't wait for it all to be over with. I do have to say that this semester has flown by. I swear it feels like I've just now started to get comfortable with the classes and it's over.

I had a 3" downpipe made on Thursday. It's full stainless steel, even the flange! It starts off as a 2.5" flared coupler that mates to a 3" 90* bend, and then one more 90* bend. While my Z was at the shop, I noticed that the turbo outlet gasket was installed upside down! Now who coulda done that? It was blocking part of the exhaust stream. Needless to say, that got fixed real fast. The power at the top end wasn't noticeably improved at stock boost levels, but at high boost, it was definitely easy to notice! Who would have thought a simple downpipe modification would make such a huge difference in power?

I'm going to get the current setup dynoed on May 19th. I still have the 60mm HKS catback exhaust, and it's the last bottleneck for the exhaust stream. I'm debating on what kind of muffler to get. I really don't want to do an N1 muffler again. It was way too loud without the silencer in, and I don't want to run with a silencer since it kills all the power you gained from installing a larger exhaust. I was thinking of a 30" Magnaflow with a 3" inlet and 2.5" tips. That way the muffler wouldn't get the wrong attention, and it would do a great job at shutting up the db of the exhaust.

I'm also in the middle of installing an alarm system on my Z since my bro's car got broken into for the 2nd time. I can't stand thieves... I don't have much ICE in my Z, but still, I don't want some jackass ripping me off. I'm about 1/2 way done with the installation. It's not too bad, but boy is it time consuming! I did get my door poppers to work again too. I'm so happy I don't have to crawl through the hatch anymore to open my doors! Now I just push a button on my remote, and the doors open. Other than that, not much else! I have to get back to studying now, bleah!!!

  • The Z meet this past weekend was awesome! It was the best one yet! The venue's location was changed to a park called Oak Canyon, but it was nice. I met up with a bunch of people from the forums, and we even had a cruise and dinner run after the Z meet. Definitely cool when you roll down the streets in a caravan of 8 old school Z cars and one 93 n/a 300zx. Oh and the requisite open exhaust Honda. I don't know where he came from, but his car was the loudest one of all. It's all good though, the more the merrier I suppose.

The Z is running awesome. My gas mileage improved a bunch over the previous setup (early Z31 ecu with an S-AFC and MSD BTM). I ended up with 21.1 mpg over the entire trip compared to the 16.7-18.1 I used to average. Not bad when you get a 17% increase in fuel economy with more power to boot! I talked to the guy who did my fuel maps for the ecu, and I guess my turbo's exhaust side is a bit too small. He suggested I upgrade to a stage V wheel and crank the psi to 18. My limit is 16 psi for now according to him because otherwise the wheel will start to wobble and possible break which is definitely bad. The next mod though is a downpipe for sure. That thing is choking off so much flow. I'm pretty sure that's why I get surge at part throttle boosting at times. Anyway, I put pics of the show on my myspace page. I didn't get to take as many I'd like to have, but a lot of my time was spent walking around and talking to people.
